When I was told my co-worker's granddaughter had come home from pre-school with a drawing she wanted to show me, I'm not sure what I expected. That said, a drawing of a scribbled red blob ... a clown... with the letters "I" and "T' in the corner were NOT what I was anticipating.
Meet Penny. Growing up with that name in a family of horror movie fanatics, you learn to embrace the spirit of Halloween from a young age. For context, this girl showed up to my SPRING MINIS this year cuddling her favorite zombie doll while sitting amongst the flowers. Naturally, it didn't take long to realize that little Penny needed her very own Halloween photoshoot. As a girl after my own heart, she was beyond excited to get to play dress up and skip through the park on this cloudy autumn morning. This four year old has more personality, confidence, and humor than half of the people I've met in my life... (cut scene to her playing in the park after the session, still in full clown dress as a 12 year old boy comes up... "cool costume!" Without missing a beat, she hollered a "THANKS DUDE!" and kept running to play.) We did attempt to do this shoot in the early hours of the morning as to avoid too much park traffic and negate scaring anyone who may be less .... ermm... enthusiastic about Halloween. Luckily. the only other run-in was on the forest path with a little boy and his mom. This toddler must've saw through the makeup to her sweet Penny heart, because they took a moment to run amongst the trees and chase ducks together during the little session break. Better him than me! If a pint-sized clown ran up to me in the woods, I'd need a minute to think about the prospect of friendship... but everyone who did see us took to her surprisingly well.
All in all, we had an absolute blast. Her natural playfulness, energy, curiosity, giggles, and desire to explore really brought the session to life. Peep her family loving on this cutie below!
She was just TOO GOOD and this Halloween Costume photo shoot was just perfection. I love getting to step out of the norm and dive into a world of bizarre, especially this time of year!
